Designing AR filters.
I absolutely love creating AR filters in Facebook’s Spark AR. It’s fun to be able to illustrate, design and connect with people on a whole new level. I’ve built filters for five different companies thus far and it’s really exciting to see how people use the filters in their everyday lives. I believe that AR filters have helped lessen Covid-19 stress because it allows people to relax and to play on their own terms.
Sharing the excitement.
Some of my favorite filters that I have created were for two aquatic fashion companies that sell active mermaid tails for men and women to swim in. People share these filters on their stories and the filters spread like fire because everyone wants to take part in them and see which random tail design they will get or if it matches the one they have already purchased.
The analytics.
As a researcher my goal is to always understand why certain filters soar and why others fail. Facebook Spark AR studio gives me the ability to understand what people like and don’t like about my specific filters. My goal is to be able to do the same for other companies around the world and help them connect and share more of their content with their people.
Filters bring confidence to people.
People are more likely to post with a filter if it has a facial blurring effect or makeup. They feel more confident and are more likely to share their stories with the world without having to worry about obnoxious acne that distracts their viewers from their actual story telling time. I love trying different color filters to allow people to tell their stories through different themes and aesthetics. Color editing is extremely important to content creators. I usually start out with a Lightroom Preset in my AR filters so it sets the right mood instantly. And then I add makeup and face blurring so that my audience and followers feel more comfortable using my filter.
